Manpower Alberta’s Workforce Development program needed participants to submit high‑quality, targeted job applications that would pass ATS screening and lead to employment. But many job seekers lacked the technical skills to update resumes and cover letters in MS Word independently.
This created a performance bottleneck: trainers were spending 5–15 hours per participant in 1:1 coaching sessions just to walk learners through basic document‑editing tasks. This reduced capacity for other essential training activities and slowed participant progress toward job placement.
Participants were struggling with:
navigating MS Word
applying ATS optimization strategies
customizing documents for each job posting
completing the process without 1:1 trainer intervention
The existing training model wasn’t scalable.
I designed a blended learning solution that directly addressed this performance gap and reduced reliance on 1:1 coaching:
Interactive eLearning module with software simulations that let learners practice MS Word tasks safely and repeatedly
Scenario‑based activities tailored to labour‑sector job seekers
Step‑by‑step video walkthroughs using Camtasia + ClipChamp narration
Instructor‑Led ATS Optimization session to standardize foundational knowledge
Job Aid to support independent practice
Real‑world application exercise where learners submit a targeted job application for trainer review
The design ensured learners could practice the exact technical behaviours required to customize job applications without needing a trainer beside them.
The new blended solution launched in August 2024 and is expected to:
significantly reduce trainer time spent on technical coaching
increase learner independence in customizing job applications
improve ATS pass‑through rates
accelerate participant readiness for employment
The project also strengthened Manpower AB’s ability to scale support across diverse learner groups.
