Women Owned Narratives (WON) is a grassroots volunteer organization that focuses on highlighting the stories of women. One of their goals is to provide compelling learning content to their beneficiaries and stakeholders, and this is the first eLearning project they have undertaken.
The eLearning is to be designed to be compelling and relevant content that will draw traffic to the WON website and social media, and to upcoming events. The topic was to be relevant to WONs goals and mission. A cornerstone of their mission is to help build social capital for women through information networking events.
Given that WONs focus on storytelling, it was deemed to be important to carry this theme through the eLearning module as well. We wanted learners to discover the value of social capital and some skills to support building social capital while also engaging in a story.
It was challenging to create a true self-directed story that provided information in an accessible way, without being too content heavy. The use of Branch Track supported offering an opportunity to apply the skills taught for building social capital, and the keys to open doors was designed as incentive for moving through the course, thereby learning about the value of social capital, as defined by research.
A rapid development model was followed, starting with a visual prototype to provide WON stakeholders and SMEs with a concept to review and provide feedback.
Learners are invited to then engage with Women Owned Narratives by attending events, sharing their stories, or reaching out to volunteer.
An interactive, story-based eLearning module was created to share the value of social capital and component skills for building it. The full course will be launched in September of 2024.
